I used to be an Ascics fan but as I got older, my needs changed. I like the styling and support these shoes give me when I'm walking on uneven ground.

Bottom line up front: To be as comfrotable as the moab 2, Merrel needs to move back to the Moab 2's insole (Kinetic Fit Advanced Footbed) and slightly soften the mid sole. Pros of the Moab 3: It's a good boot that's supportive and fits well. It's grippy and relatively light for a hiking boot. Cons of the Moab 3: -> The insole is much worse in the Moab 3 than in the Moab 2. The 2 had a pressed and perforated EVA insole that was very responsive and stayed springy for years of use. The 3 has a blue metatarsal pad which is inlayed into the insole. This portion of the insole is very, very unresponsive and lacks the same amount of cushion and responsiveness as the 2's forefoot insole. After a single day of use, the blue areas on the insole are flat and have no spring. The result is a fit that feels like i'm walking on a hard surface. In my attached images, I've applied roughly the same pressure to the front of the insert to demonstrate how the Moab 3's insert is very flimsy at the forefoot. The older insole is much more sturdy and spongey in the same area. You can purchase the same kinetic fit insoles as the Moab 2's for extra, but only in whole sizes :( -> The midsole is stiffer than the Moab 2, and this contributes to the pressure at the heel and the forefoot. Both of these means the forefoot experiences a ton more pressure and feels much stiffer and less comfortable after walking out of the store. It's more uncomfortable to stand for hours or walk for miles, and it feels like I'm closer to injury at any given point than with the Moab 2.

I purchased these moabs and use them solely for disc golfing. Basically hiking but with a twist LOL. They have a good toe box and the extra rubber up front on the tow help. Since I do drag my toe as I throw forehand as opposed to a backhand. They're very comfortable And provide great traction if it's muddy out. I have zero complaints about these shoes.

The first day was a walking tour through a vineyard. There was dirt, cover crop and uneven ground. The second day was an offroad tour in my Raptor R. It was a super technical boulder crawling adventure that required frequent trips walking to select the best line through the boulders. My MERRELLS performed flawlessly on both occasions. Lots of ankle support and traction(:-)

Merrell Hiking Boots are always my go-to purchase when I need to replace my well-worn and well-loved boots. I am on the trails early every morning and even with my arthritic feet, I find comfort and ease of movement over varied terrain. The only thing I have a hard time with is the laces ... I am re-tying them often unless I get a good grip with a double knot.

Over many years I have continued to purchase these hikers. They are rugged, fit well and are very reasonably priced.

Fourth pair of Moab' s . Two pair women but switched the men's do to my size 12 foot. Women's 12 cut just a tad short causing sore toes. Went to men's 11 which fit great, arch, support not to wide. Our group section hikes the AT - love these shoes !

I am a female hiker who hasn't been able to find hiking shoes that don't blister my long toe toenail even when when I buy a half size larger. At last I've found my solution with the Moab 3! I'm an avid hiker and do on average, 1400' elevation gain hikes. Uphill, no problem. Downhill, however is the real test for me and hiking shoes. ln all other hiking shoes and boot brands over the years, I've ended up w under the toenail blisters under the first two toes of both feet. After hiking about 25 miles so far in my new Men's Merrell Moab 3, I am happy to report - no toe soreness or beginning of blisters! Thank you, Merrell.
